Summer Fill In!

www.lured.com

Even though the spring book ends in June, the station will still will be running at full speed with carnivals, pool patrols, festivals, concerts and more, but traditionally, it's vacation time for a ton of listeners and staff which makes some ideas tougher than wearing a mascot outfit in late July. How do we keep the excitement going? This week, we offer some ideas to add even more fun to summer and make coming home from vacation something to look forward to. As always, your feedback and ideas are welcome. Email: ideas@lured.com

On Air

Free Gas Friday - It's another summer and another year of high prices at the pump. Start your listeners weekend road trip with a free tank of gas on their way out of town. Listeners simply have to listen to the station at a designated each week (on a certain day) for the location to be revealed. The first (station frequency) vehicles to show up receive (frequency) gallons of gasoline for free!

Fill In Jocks - Let the superstars take over the station when your fulltimers take a summer vacation. Invite a local television personality, a politician, a sports star or an artist to fill in during the week they are gone. This is also a great way to expose local musicians or artists in your area.

Bootleg Weekend - The station airs special acoustic, live and other alternative mixes of songs on their playlist all weekend. A great giveaway would be to allow listeners to win those tracks, make them downloadable on your website or giveaway individual downloads of the special versions. **Be sure to receive clearances on this one before doing any giveaways. All winners qualify to win a new IPOD that the morning show gives away on Monday.

Company Picnic - These are becoming a thing of the past as companies cut the budgets, but what a great opportunity for a summer at work contest! Have your station in partnership with some key clients giveaway a company picnic to an office in your area. The station company picnic will be open to all employees of the company and their families, and will include: Free food (Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, Barbecue, Ribs, Pizza, etc.), water, juice or soda, a beer garden for the adults, games and activities, an artist performing live and/or karaoke or a DJ spinning the station's music. Add all the extras so every business in your listening area will want to be the winner and listen everyday to try and win it.

Online

Dad's Day Hair Ball - Listeners simply send a picture of their dads who have the hairiest backs, chests, ears, etc. All are posted on the station website with the winning dad chosen by listeners. The winning dad receives free laser hair removal, tanning sessions or another manly prize.

Summers Best - Have listeners register some major page views for your site this summer by having them vote for their favorite summer theme hotties. Categories may include (localize and add your own): Hottest carneys at the Fair, Hottest Lifeguard at the Community Pools, Hottest mail or delivery driver in shorts, neighborhood with hottest people, etc.

On The Street

Auto Show TV Program - Here's one from promotion consultant Doug Parker. Team up with a TV station or another company that is producing a TV show that your talent can host. In Houston, the Auto Show does their own one-hour preview show and we worked with them to have Marc Vandermeer host the show. Marc is the voice of the Houston Texans, does a show on our sports station and does sports reports on KILT. We ran promos promoting the show on the sports station. The TV station ran promos that had mention and logo of SportsRadio 610 and during the show he was identified and we got several plugs in for both the Sports Station and KILT. The show aired on a Friday night at 8 pm then again on Sunday afternoon.

Ballet Parking - Talk about non-traditional revenue. Recruit a group of professional male dancers or the local ballet company, if they're game and put them at the main entrance of a major shopping mall. Your "ballet valet" team wear tutus and will valet park cars for a nominal donation which goes to charity.

Brawl At The Mall -Have a hot ticket to giveaway on the station or simply what to add some excitement to a mall appearance? Then rent party inflatables, things like a boxing ring and oversized boxing gloves or the infamous sumo wrestler suits. Set up at center court and have listeners compete to win the tickets, a shopping spree, etc.

Buzz Factor

We always look to have our finger on the pulse of what's happening and try to create a promotion, a bit, a stunt or an event that will associate our station with the buzz. It's all about making them remember us and what better way than jumping on a big buzz story of the moment. Just remember to keep the listeners inside the circle, not outside when coming up with these ideas and you'll be guaranteed to be memorable everytime. We offer some of our buzz ideas below. As always, your feedback and ideas are always welcome. Email: ideas@lured.com

Baby Britney Winning Weekend - This one comes to us from Fisher at Hot 98 in Greenville, SC. Your listeners can live like Britney and Kevin too with the help of your station. Listen all weekend to win the Britney Pregnancy Survival Kit complete with white trash items like wife beaters, flip flops, hooters gift certificates and temporary tattoos, all in a white trash bag.

Runaway Bride - Obviously a great phone topic with the Jennifer Wilbanks story over the weekend, but how about taking it a step further. Place a bounty for any bride (or groom) who has a wedding coming up soon and has gotten cold feet to call the station for a chance to win a complete Runaway Package complete with a new haircut, bus ticket to an undisclosed location and more. Give them an alias while they are on the air with you and the best cold feet or sob story wins.

The final chapter of the Star Wars saga hits theatres in a few weeks and now is the time to cash in on the buzz.

Name Change - Offer cash to listeners who would legally change their name to Obi Wan Kenobi or Han Solo.

Stand In - Give away a station stunt person or personality to stand in line for tickets to opening day of the movie.

Events Are Us!

www.lured.com

The summer is filled with festivals, fairs, charity events, concerts and more and of course you want to have visibility at every single one. This week we focus on events and feature some ideas on how your station can not only be seen but remembered after the draft beer buzz and farmers tan goes away. As always, your feedback and ideas are always welcome. Email: ideas@lured.com

On-Air
Concert/Festival VIP
- When giving away tickets for a big concert, festival or fair event, qualify everyone to win your "VIP" package that includes: a parking pass for the venue or valet parking there, VIP tickets and (for outdoor shows and/or festivals) throw in a Port-a-John (with your logo on it) for the exclusive use of the winner and their guests.

Ceiling Fans - Your "Ceiling Fans" sit together in the nose bleed seats during a sporting event, like baseball or soccer. Work with the local and/or regional team to secure tickets to a section in the upper levels that can be hosted by your morning show. At the game, bring confetti, noise makers and lots of rowdy things to make the Ceiling Fans section the talk of the arena. You can also tie-in a client and produce "beenie" hats with both logos to award all winners.

Concert Tickets - Create a 5 1/2" by 2" station concert ticket that can be handed out to any consumer attending a local and/or regional concert, festival, fair, etc. The ticket front includes: your logo and a number (individual number on each ticket) along with copy that may say, "(x) lucky people from this event will win $1,000 this Monday (tomorrow) at 7:20am with (your morning show). The back includes the same copy and a reminder to "Keep this ticket to win because only people who received this ticket at the event are eligibile to win!" Hot Spot!

The infamous bar or club gig keeps most stations busy every weekend and bring a nice chunk of local cash to the station. It does get tiresome at times to keep these on-going appearances fresh, so this week we focus on them and offer some new ideas that will make your station night a hot spot for a few more weeks or months. As always, your feedback and ideas are always welcome. Email: ideas@lured.com

On-Air
Be A Bartender
- Give away a Grand Prize to be a guest bartender in a client bar or nightclub. The winner receives free admission for up to 25 (more or less) friends, a station/bar branded staff shirt, a copy of "Cocktail" on video, etc. Great at-work promotion > one person in the office wins and all co-workers get in free. Use this for a client bar or nightclub on a traditionally slow night.

Party Like A Rock Star - A lucky guy scores an ultimate rock & roll adventure, complete with a limo (stocked with cans of domestic beer and tequila), and the beautiful women to accompany him and his guest for an evening. First stop, a massage parlor to rub out that hangover. Next stop, a run through a fast food drive thru. Then, off to a cool place to act like a rock star, like great seats at a sporting event, or to a concert to hang out backstage your station. Finally, a late-night visit at a tattoo parlor for a complimentary tattoo, and a stop at a gentlemen's club on the way home.

On The Street
Bar/Pub Quiz - You simply bring your team with you (up to 10 people) and a "Quiz Master" asks questions that each team must answer. Questions deal with movies, music, anything. The rounds feature about 20 questions and each team writes down the answers and turns them in to be checked. Points are awarded for each right answer. The team who has the highest score after several rounds (or at the end of the night) wins free prizes (or a keg as they do in London).

Brew University - Give your listeners a chance to "graduate" from WXXX's "Brew U," a mythical college where beer drinking is the official curriculum. Stage "commencement exercises" weekly at area bars and pubs, and create a special "Brew U" logo which can be printed on commemorative cups, t-shirts, coasters, etc. Add the words "Honors Graduate," and people will fight to reuse the cups for their pool parties next summer. With graduation robes for bartenders and station personalities, and official diplomas mailed to anyone who registers for one, WXXX's "Brew U" could become a sustaining promotion for your beer sponsor, the club, and your station. And all your listeners have to do to graduate, is purchase the sponsor's beer product. Note: the cup and diploma are essentially "gifts with purchase" so no lottery laws are in effect. However, check with local alcoholic beverage codes before launching this one in your market. If you find this promotion running out of steam after a few weeks, hold a contest to compose the "Brew U" school song, take nominations for a mascot, add honorary doctorates for repeat customers or favorite bartenders, and above all--a cheerleading squad!

Ugliest Bartender - Simply place collection jars in every bar in your town asking consumers to help (station) find the (cities) "Ugliest Bartender." "If you would like to vote for the bartender you are looking at right now, please put some change in the jar." All money received benefits (x) charity. **A great promo item. Create cardboard coasters that feature your logo on one side and have the other side include name and phone number input lines. Give them to client bars and hot spots around town.

Street Games (Some games to play at your appearances)
Frozen T-Shirt Contest
- Take 5 to 10 t-shirts, soak them in water, fold them into a small square and place them in a freezer for a couple of hours before the start of the contest. When your contest starts, give each participant a frozen t-shirt square and award prizes to the first person who can unfold the t-shirt and put it on.

Make Your Own Tattoo - Sell or give players in the contest a sharpie marker and have them (or a friend) draw a tattoo on a part of their body. Have the players take turns showing off their tattoo and have the crord (or selected judges) pick the best one.

Cork Game - Each participant is given a champagne bottle to open. They must aim the bottle (popping the cork) at targets you provide and hit them with the cork. Each target is worth a specific prize.

Swing That Thing - ITEMS NEEDED: A pair of panty hose and two oranges for each player. Line up the contestants on the starting line with about 2 feet between each one. Tie one leg of the panty hose around the waist and slip one orange down the other leg so it's hanging between the feet 1 to 2 inches above the floor. Take the second orange and place it in front of each contestant. When you say "go", the object is for each contestant to swing their hips (no hands or feet)using the orange in the hose to move it across the playing area to a designated finish line. The first person across the finish line wins!

Ice Toes - Use two (or more) large platic containers (big enough to for someone to stand in). Place marbles in the containers along with an equal number of ice cubes. Players then remove their shoes and socks and race to try and get the marbles out of each pan using only their toes! No spilling ice or knocking over the container. The first to get all the marbles out of the pan wins.

Selling...it looks good on you!

www.lured.com

The second master we serve in radio are clients (first are listeners) and they keep us busy with those famous two words, "added-value." However, a few years back we also realized that in order to make the revenue numbers we would have to sell more than just commercials to those clients, so NTR and New Business Departments were created in radio divisions. This week we're giving you some ideas for them. Maybe if one sells big, you can carve out a nice bonus for yourself :> As always, your feedback and ideas are always welcome. Email: ideas@lured.com

On-Air
Big Money Party
- Listeners win their way in to a party hosted by your station to win their share of prizes that equal $100,000 (or other amount)! Everyone who wins passes to the party is guaranteed a prize, and the only way in is to listen to your station. Have big prizes and small to equal the $100,000. Great event to get the sales departments help and offer great sponsorship packages.

10 Grand in 10 Hours - Listeners are qualified to win a $10,000 shopping spree (or other amount) with on-air giveaways that may include $100 cash or $100 gift certificate to a local mall. On the final day of the contest, a grand prize winner is chosen from all the qualifiers and the station surprises them with a limo picking them up at home or work and awarding them $10,000 in cash and a ride to the participating mall. Of course there is a catch... the winner has to spend all $10,000.00 that day by a designated time and they cannot spend more than your frequency (Example $104) in each store! And if they don't spend it, they get nothing!

International Diner - Fax, e-mail, call-in or register at a client location to win the "International Diner" prize. Each week a winner will be drawn and awarded lunch for (x) from any place in the world. The food is overnighted to the winner(s) from their chosen destination. Example: Lobster from Maine, authenic Italian from Italy, etc. Another fun twist is to overnight the winner to congratulate them on winning. Great tie-ins include delivery companies, restaurants with locations in different cities and/or countries, airlines, etc.

Bet Your Butt - Two trivia questions. The first one is easy and good for a Round Roast of meat. After the person answers the question, tell them they can keep the Round Roast or "Bet Their Butt" for a bigger prize. If they answer the second question they win tickets, cash, CD(s), etc.

Online
Hot Zips
- Allow listeners/users to select (or type in) their zip code to find hot things to do in their area. Movie listings, nightclubs/bars, restaurants, retailers, etc. can be featured by zip code. Great website package for sales.

Source Book/Link - Compile a (frequency) pages information and entertainment directory of your area as an added-value to clients. This also makes a great website feature.

On The Street
Parking Lot Picnics - Fax, write, e-mail or register for a chance to win a lunch at your workplace for the entire staff or the amount of people in your frequency Example: Lunch for 99. A winner is randomly selected each week (we recommend Thursday) from all entries and awarded the "Parking Lot Picnic" that will take place at their workplace (in the parking lot or conference room) on the following Friday. A great workplace marketing promotion - take the staff along to hand out prizes or play games. Client tie-ins include pizza, rib places, BBQ, etc. - the goal is to find a partner that can provide lunch for a 100. Also consider your local grocery who can sell this to their vendors to underwrite the cost - categories for them include hot dogs, condiments, meats, etc. And don't forget your soft drink, water and/or juice clients too.

Cellular Scramble - Each week for a four week promotional period, post a different, imaginary seven digit telephone number on an easel sign at all retail location(s). Utilizing the corresponding letters on the key pad, store patrons must decipher the seven letter word or mystery message represented by the numbers. For example, 244-7253 spells "big sale" and 874-8674 spells "Triumph", a classic rock band. You can either have listeners call in with the answer after you prompt them on the air, or you can have them add the mystery word or phrase to an entry form at the retailer in order to be eligible for the prize.

Ceiling Fans - Your "Ceiling Fans" sit together in the nose bleed seats during a sporting event.

Backyard BBQ - Register on-air, through your website, or at a designated location(s) to win a "Backyard Barbeque" on a designated date complete with: a new gas grill, enough food to feed 100 (or frequency) people, entertainemnt, prizes, etc.
