Selling...it looks good on you!

www.lured.com

The second master we serve in radio are clients (first are listeners) and they keep us busy with those famous two words, "added-value." However, a few years back we also realized that in order to make the revenue numbers we would have to sell more than just commercials to those clients, so NTR and New Business Departments were created in radio divisions. This week we're giving you some ideas for them. Maybe if one sells big, you can carve out a nice bonus for yourself :> As always, your feedback and ideas are always welcome. Email: ideas@lured.com

On-Air
Big Money Party
- Listeners win their way in to a party hosted by your station to win their share of prizes that equal $100,000 (or other amount)! Everyone who wins passes to the party is guaranteed a prize, and the only way in is to listen to your station. Have big prizes and small to equal the $100,000. Great event to get the sales departments help and offer great sponsorship packages.

10 Grand in 10 Hours - Listeners are qualified to win a $10,000 shopping spree (or other amount) with on-air giveaways that may include $100 cash or $100 gift certificate to a local mall. On the final day of the contest, a grand prize winner is chosen from all the qualifiers and the station surprises them with a limo picking them up at home or work and awarding them $10,000 in cash and a ride to the participating mall. Of course there is a catch... the winner has to spend all $10,000.00 that day by a designated time and they cannot spend more than your frequency (Example $104) in each store! And if they don't spend it, they get nothing!

International Diner - Fax, e-mail, call-in or register at a client location to win the "International Diner" prize. Each week a winner will be drawn and awarded lunch for (x) from any place in the world. The food is overnighted to the winner(s) from their chosen destination. Example: Lobster from Maine, authenic Italian from Italy, etc. Another fun twist is to overnight the winner to congratulate them on winning. Great tie-ins include delivery companies, restaurants with locations in different cities and/or countries, airlines, etc.

Bet Your Butt - Two trivia questions. The first one is easy and good for a Round Roast of meat. After the person answers the question, tell them they can keep the Round Roast or "Bet Their Butt" for a bigger prize. If they answer the second question they win tickets, cash, CD(s), etc.

Online
Hot Zips
- Allow listeners/users to select (or type in) their zip code to find hot things to do in their area. Movie listings, nightclubs/bars, restaurants, retailers, etc. can be featured by zip code. Great website package for sales.

Source Book/Link - Compile a (frequency) pages information and entertainment directory of your area as an added-value to clients. This also makes a great website feature.

On The Street
Parking Lot Picnics - Fax, write, e-mail or register for a chance to win a lunch at your workplace for the entire staff or the amount of people in your frequency Example: Lunch for 99. A winner is randomly selected each week (we recommend Thursday) from all entries and awarded the "Parking Lot Picnic" that will take place at their workplace (in the parking lot or conference room) on the following Friday. A great workplace marketing promotion - take the staff along to hand out prizes or play games. Client tie-ins include pizza, rib places, BBQ, etc. - the goal is to find a partner that can provide lunch for a 100. Also consider your local grocery who can sell this to their vendors to underwrite the cost - categories for them include hot dogs, condiments, meats, etc. And don't forget your soft drink, water and/or juice clients too.

Cellular Scramble - Each week for a four week promotional period, post a different, imaginary seven digit telephone number on an easel sign at all retail location(s). Utilizing the corresponding letters on the key pad, store patrons must decipher the seven letter word or mystery message represented by the numbers. For example, 244-7253 spells "big sale" and 874-8674 spells "Triumph", a classic rock band. You can either have listeners call in with the answer after you prompt them on the air, or you can have them add the mystery word or phrase to an entry form at the retailer in order to be eligible for the prize.

Ceiling Fans - Your "Ceiling Fans" sit together in the nose bleed seats during a sporting event. Work with the local and/or regional team to secure tickets to a section in the upper levels that can be hosted by your morning show. At the game, bring confetti, noise makers and lots of rowdy things to make the Ceiling Fans section the talk of the arena. You can also tie-in a client and produce "beenie" hats with both logos to award all winners.

Backyard BBQ - Register on-air, through your website, or at a designated location(s) to win a "Backyard Barbeque" on a designated date complete with: a new gas grill, enough food to feed 100 (or frequency) people, entertainemnt, prizes, etc.

On-Air
Entertainment/Artist Promoter to give away SCION. BUT HOW?? Try something like a "pimp my ride". Have listener's email pictures to you. Take the top 5 cars that look the worst then put them on your website for listener's to vote the car that needs to be pimped. They win the SCION.
Try running a battle of the pizza's. this promotion is easy, effective and easy for the client to track. have your morning show design a pizza with there choice of topping and do the same for your afternoon drive and have the pizza place sell them for what ever you calls are for example when we did it you got a medium pizza for $10.20 because are calls were 102Fm. Have the client keep track of the number of pizzas sold for each day part and the winner at the end of the 2-3 week period gets 25 qualifiers on are to joing that day part host at the clients location for a free pizza party

Online
If you want to get a little out of the box, try adapting part of the promotion to a computer compamy to offer Spring "Spyware" Cleaning on all PC'S

Garden Centre. Try doing a back yard make over where people send in photo's of an ugly back yard after diciding on the winner your promotions team designs it and your jocks build it. Great way to put your logo up somewhere for a weekend and you could even put your logo up forever if done with rocks or flowers hope this helps

On The Street
In belgium every year we organize several sing-a-long concerts. A live band is playing the most populair songs of which people know the lyrics very well. Akind of autocue also shows the lyrics to the audience.Ppeople come to the coast and sing a long with the live band.

We are currently do a Guitar Toss. The store is having a blow out after NAMM sale and we are going to throw a special guitar for additional discounts. So to break it down each person will throw thsi special guitar. The distance in feet will determing the additional discount to be taken off the sale price. We also have a few guitar amp packages that we will be giving away at the event that will include a live broadcast. We will have celebrities there to sign autogrhaphs and take pictures. Let me know what you did, Maybe I can add the elements to the event.

Something new and different, that would work at a wing place, every Thursday night. A themed event.....the last event went on for 12 weeks, called Wingo. It was bingo with a wing, with cards made up with the restaurants logo, and we announced the numbers. Everyone would win something, and there would be a grandprize each night. Need something different, that would encourage more people to hang around the bar.

Downloads

www.lured.com

We live in a download society and with the success of I-Pod's and other MP3 devices, it's only growing larger and larger every week. There's a statitic that MP3 player sales will grow by almost 40% this year! We believe it's a great opportunity for radio to embrace this trend and use it to build even stronger relationships with our listeners, who are already addicted to the downloads and would like some personality to come along with it (this is where radio comes in). We offer some of our download ideas to get you started below. As always, your feedback and ideas are always welcome. Email:mailto:ideas@lured.com

On-Air
Win It Before You Can Download It - Listeners call in all day or all weekend before a release from one of your artists to win a copy of the CD before you can download it via Napster, I-Tunes, etc. and before it goes on sale in the music stores and sites.

Download or Delete It - A new name for make it or break it. Simply have a new song featured on the station at a designated time each day and listeners can call in, email or text message their vote on whether the station should play it by putting it on the hard drive or deleting it and sending it to the trash.

Daily Downloads - Every afternoon or night at a designated time, you simply countdown the most downloaded songs in your city. Z104 in Washington, DC created this one and calls it, DC Downloads.

Shuffle - The station has stored four (4) songs (less or more) in it's new I-Pod and a listener can win it (or another prize) by simply picking which song they think will play when the I-Pod shuffles the tunes each time. If the song they chose plays, they win.

Online
Morning Podcast - Have your morning show make all their interviews, bits, stunts, etc. available as a daily podcast and downloadable on your website (or a site like ipodder). Include an appointment for the next day which may include a tease of another interview, a contest or a time for a funny bit so you can ensure they will keep coming back for more.

Afternoon Podcast - Have a station daily podcast that features morning show/celebrity/artist interviews, the weather from your meterologist, celebrity news, bits, stunts and more. Make it available each day for listeners to download through your website (or a site like ipodder) before they leave the office for the commute home, via car, transit, etc.

Station Podcast Components - Offer podcasters in your audience some help on your website. Have a station podcasters kit that may include imaging with intros of songs and artists, generic interviews that may be used by the podcaster where they simply insert their voice for the questions, a chance to have custom voice work done by a personality and more. The only catch is thr components also have a station ID, or they agree to run a station promo for listening during their podcast in exchange for the items.

On The Street
Station Podcast
- Make it available for download at all station events and appearances. Simply take along a laptop and I-Pod or MP3 users can bring their gear and have it downloaded on the spot.
