Summer Fill In!

www.lured.com

Even though the spring book ends in June, the station will still will be running at full speed with carnivals, pool patrols, festivals, concerts and more, but traditionally, it's vacation time for a ton of listeners and staff which makes some ideas tougher than wearing a mascot outfit in late July. How do we keep the excitement going? This week, we offer some ideas to add even more fun to summer and make coming home from vacation something to look forward to. As always, your feedback and ideas are welcome. Email: ideas@lured.com

On Air

Free Gas Friday - It's another summer and another year of high prices at the pump. Start your listeners weekend road trip with a free tank of gas on their way out of town. Listeners simply have to listen to the station at a designated each week (on a certain day) for the location to be revealed. The first (station frequency) vehicles to show up receive (frequency) gallons of gasoline for free!

Fill In Jocks - Let the superstars take over the station when your fulltimers take a summer vacation. Invite a local television personality, a politician, a sports star or an artist to fill in during the week they are gone. This is also a great way to expose local musicians or artists in your area.

Bootleg Weekend - The station airs special acoustic, live and other alternative mixes of songs on their playlist all weekend. A great giveaway would be to allow listeners to win those tracks, make them downloadable on your website or giveaway individual downloads of the special versions. **Be sure to receive clearances on this one before doing any giveaways. All winners qualify to win a new IPOD that the morning show gives away on Monday.

Company Picnic - These are becoming a thing of the past as companies cut the budgets, but what a great opportunity for a summer at work contest! Have your station in partnership with some key clients giveaway a company picnic to an office in your area. The station company picnic will be open to all employees of the company and their families, and will include: Free food (Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, Barbecue, Ribs, Pizza, etc.), water, juice or soda, a beer garden for the adults, games and activities, an artist performing live and/or karaoke or a DJ spinning the station's music. Add all the extras so every business in your listening area will want to be the winner and listen everyday to try and win it.

Online

Dad's Day Hair Ball - Listeners simply send a picture of their dads who have the hairiest backs, chests, ears, etc. All are posted on the station website with the winning dad chosen by listeners. The winning dad receives free laser hair removal, tanning sessions or another manly prize.

Summers Best - Have listeners register some major page views for your site this summer by having them vote for their favorite summer theme hotties. Categories may include (localize and add your own): Hottest carneys at the Fair, Hottest Lifeguard at the Community Pools, Hottest mail or delivery driver in shorts, neighborhood with hottest people, etc.

On The Street

Auto Show TV Program - Here's one from promotion consultant Doug Parker. Team up with a TV station or another company that is producing a TV show that your talent can host. In Houston, the Auto Show does their own one-hour preview show and we worked with them to have Marc Vandermeer host the show. Marc is the voice of the Houston Texans, does a show on our sports station and does sports reports on KILT. We ran promos promoting the show on the sports station. The TV station ran promos that had mention and logo of SportsRadio 610 and during the show he was identified and we got several plugs in for both the Sports Station and KILT. The show aired on a Friday night at 8 pm then again on Sunday afternoon.

Ballet Parking - Talk about non-traditional revenue. Recruit a group of professional male dancers or the local ballet company, if they're game and put them at the main entrance of a major shopping mall. Your "ballet valet" team wear tutus and will valet park cars for a nominal donation which goes to charity.

Brawl At The Mall -Have a hot ticket to giveaway on the station or simply what to add some excitement to a mall appearance? Then rent party inflatables, things like a boxing ring and oversized boxing gloves or the infamous sumo wrestler suits. Set up at center court and have listeners compete to win the tickets, a shopping spree, etc.

Buzz Factor

We always look to have our finger on the pulse of what's happening and try to create a promotion, a bit, a stunt or an event that will associate our station with the buzz. It's all about making them remember us and what better way than jumping on a big buzz story of the moment. Just remember to keep the listeners inside the circle, not outside when coming up with these ideas and you'll be guaranteed to be memorable everytime. We offer some of our buzz ideas below. As always, your feedback and ideas are always welcome. Email: ideas@lured.com

Baby Britney Winning Weekend - This one comes to us from Fisher at Hot 98 in Greenville, SC. Your listeners can live like Britney and Kevin too with the help of your station. Listen all weekend to win the Britney Pregnancy Survival Kit complete with white trash items like wife beaters, flip flops, hooters gift certificates and temporary tattoos, all in a white trash bag.

Runaway Bride - Obviously a great phone topic with the Jennifer Wilbanks story over the weekend, but how about taking it a step further. Place a bounty for any bride (or groom) who has a wedding coming up soon and has gotten cold feet to call the station for a chance to win a complete Runaway Package complete with a new haircut, bus ticket to an undisclosed location and more. Give them an alias while they are on the air with you and the best cold feet or sob story wins.

The final chapter of the Star Wars saga hits theatres in a few weeks and now is the time to cash in on the buzz.

Name Change - Offer cash to listeners who would legally change their name to Obi Wan Kenobi or Han Solo.

Stand In - Give away a station stunt person or personality to stand in line for tickets to opening day of the movie.
